Cha-cha-changes are coming

Things are shifting here at NeuroDoses.

If you’ve been around for a while, you’ve probably felt the shift yourself. I’ve slowly moved from general brain-health content into a much more focused world: psychedelics.

(Not a huge leap, considering psychedelics are some of the most powerful brain-healing tools we know.)

Here’s why I’m evolving the direction:

1. I’m a clinical herbalist at my core.

My roots have always been in the natural world — plants, fungi, and the medicine Mother Earth gives us. I’ve wanted to lean deeper into that lineage, especially the psychoactive botanicals that can "bend and mend the mind."

2. I’m also a certified psilocybin facilitator.

When Oregon rolled out legal psilocybin services, I jumped in immediately. I’d been studying this space for years, waiting for the moment the laws caught up with the science.

3. My personal psychedelic healing journey and passion.

But also, psychedelics have been one of my great loves since I was 13. That first psilocybin journey cracked something open in me... woke me up (so to speak).

While other kids were doing homework, I was deep in psychedelic research and writing high-school essays defending the benefits of these medicines.

So this shift? It feels like coming home.

For a while, I felt like I could only skim the surface when writing about psychedelics because I was juggling too many topics (nootropics, neurohacking, men's health, herbal medicine, etc.). A mile wide and an inch deep.

Now, I’m turning that upside down... An inch wide and a mile deep.

A change is at hand

I’m finally fusing the things that have shaped me the most and creating what I’ve always wanted to see in the psychedelic space.

For years, I held back from fully stepping into psychedelics because, honestly… parts of the culture felt cringe.

  • On one end: the ultra–woo-woo New Age crowd (not my lane).
  • On the other end, hardcore psychonauts downing anything in sight with zero respect for the medicine or their bodies (I used to be this guy).
  • Then the tech/longevity bros are treating psychedelics like the next biohacking gadget. (Think Bryan Johnson live-streaming his heroic psilocybin mushroom dose "for science").

None of these versions felt like home.

What feels like home is blending ancient plant wisdom with grounded, modern science.

Old world + new world. Herbalism + psychedelics.

I’m rebranding to Psyched Apothecary

A new chapter and a deeper direction.

Psyched Apothecary = an apothecary for the mind.

We explore the pharmacopeia of psychoactive plants, fungi, and even animals—through science, history, ritual, and ethnobotany.

You’ll learn how to work with these medicines intentionally for healing, for growth, for performance… all while honoring the traditions they come from.

The mission & vision

After completing my psilocybin facilitation training, I stepped into the field ready to help people heal. But the moment I saw the system from the inside, it became painfully clear: This model ISN'T ethical.

The people who need psychedelic support the most are the ones least able to access it.

What began as a healing movement is being swallowed by capitalism. These sacred medicines are being stripped of their roots and repackaged for profit.

A single legal psilocybin session now costs $1,000–$5,000.

That’s not accessibility. That’s gatekeeping.

And that’s exactly why I’m building Psyched Apothecary — a community and science-backed education hub for psychedelic protocols, resources, and support.

A space rooted in earth-grown entheogens, ethnobotanical wisdom, modern research, and true accessibility.

Psyched Apothecary exists to:

  • Make psychedelic education, resources, and support accessible to everyone
  • Return psychedelic plant medicine to the people
  • Build the world’s leading community of psychedelic herbalists — The Plant Medicine Guild

This is about taking psychedelics out of corporate control… and putting them back in the hands of the people.

So what’s changing?

A lot is shifting, but the heart of what I do is staying the same.

First off, I’m transitioning this newsletter to Substack, and here’s why:

1. Community

I want this to feel like a real two-way relationship.

With Substack, you can still reply to emails, but you can also comment, join discussions, and connect with other readers.

There’s even a chat space where we can all interact, share trip reports and research, ask questions, and support each other.

2. Better organization

People constantly ask me to resend old issues they can’t find.
Substack fixes that.

Every newsletter is categorized, searchable, and stored in one place, so you can revisit anything I’ve ever written with one click.

3. Referral rewards

Share Psyched Apothecary with your homies and get perks for helping spread the mission:

  • 3 referrals → Legal Psychedelics Cheat Sheet
  • 5 referrals → The Psychedelic Sourcing Master List (never get scammed again)
  • 25 referrals → A 30-minute Zoom call with me — let's talk psychedelics, nootropics, whatever you want

4. Live events

Substack lets me host live workshops/Q&As — a more intimate setting than TikTok or YouTube — so we can go deeper into psychoactive plants and fungi together.

5. Support for my work

I want psychedelic education to stay accessible. But I also need to keep the suits from the door.

If you have the means (only a few dollars per month), Substack offers ways to support my work while unlocking some dope perks:

  • Paid-subscriber posts
  • Community chat
  • Direct access to me for Q&A and support
  • Monthly product reviews from my Psychedelic Sourcing Master List
  • Full access to upcoming workshops, live events, guides, and more

Here’s what happens next

As we move into the new year, I’ll be migrating this entire newsletter over to Substack.

You don’t need to lift a finger.

You’ll automatically be transferred, and soon you’ll see an email from me at psychedapothecary@substack.com letting you know everything’s live.

What won’t change:

You’ll still get my weekly Saturday newsletter delivered straight to your inbox.

What will change (in the best way):

  • You’ll be able to dive deeper on Substack — comment on posts, join discussions, connect with other plant-medicine people, and hang out in the community chat.
  • You’ll have access to every past newsletter issue, fully organized and searchable (no more digging through old emails).
  • You’ll see upcoming live workshops, deep-dive guides, and events all in one place.

And of course, if the new direction doesn’t vibe with you, you can unsubscribe anytime, no hard feelings.

But if you’re excited about where I’m steering this ship...

Then welcome to Psyched Apothecary.

See you inside,

Onjae

While psilocybin, LSD, and DMT dominate the psychedelic headlines, there’s one compound that remains wildly overlooked... despite its safety, history, and therapeutic potential. And no, I’m not talking about MDMA, ibogaine, or 5-MeO-DMT. I’m talking about mescaline. My Favorite Psychedelic: Mescaline A classic psychedelic through and through, and one of my personal favorites for both macro- and microdosing. Amanita muscaria, Santa Claus, and little elf helpers

Let me blow your mind for a second. There’s a real theory backed by ethnomycology, anthropology, and Siberian shamanic tradition that Santa Claus isn’t just a whimsical invention... ...but a mythologized echo of ancient mushroom-shamans, filtered through centuries of folklore and Christianity. Today, I want to crack open a part of early Christian history that most people never hear about. A part that would make the modern church clutch its pearls and recite a quick Psalm.
